From Concept to Completion: Our Design Process

  • October 13, 2020

We know how much people love analyzing those “before” and “after” pictures of remodeled spaces. We love those pictures, too, regardless of whether we did the project, as they highlight the inspiration and creativity needed to achieve the client’s dream space.

As Kitchen & Bath designers, we make our living on getting to the “after” side of the project. We know very well what it takes to get from “before” to “after,” and we do it with each of our projects. We suspect, however, that unless you have gone through a remodel yourself, the process of getting to “after” is fraught with unknowns. At Studio M Kitchen & Bath, we strive to not only keep you informed about every step of the process, but give you an outstanding customer experience from concept to completion.

The objective of today’s blog is to demystify what it takes to get to “after.” In fact, by the time you are done reading this, we hope you’ll be so comfortable with our process that you’ll give us a call to get started on creating your very own “after!”

We’ve broken our process into five major steps, each of which energizes and excites us, and hopefully does the same for you:

  1. Inspiration
  2. Consultation
  3. Design
  4. Installation
  5. Conclusion

Inspiration

One of the best things about Studio M Kitchen & Bath is that we have a beautiful 20,000 square foot showroom chock full of inspiration. Make it a day and take your time perusing our many fully furnished and accessorized displays featuring various design styles and products. Our interior design team is also available to assist you if your project involves furnishings. Where else can you get everything you need for your project under one beautiful roof?

You may also meet one of our kitchen & bath designers who can introduce you to some of our products and ask you a few questions to help you bring some clarity to your vision.

Of course, you can also be inspired by our website and our social media posts: Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest, where we often highlight those before and after pics. Our website gallery features detailed project photos, and our blogs tell the story of some of our projects.

The intent of some of our blogs (like this one) is to educate – but in a fun way. We encourage you to check out our extensive collection of blog posts for trends, design tips, Cabinetry 101, and more.

Consultation

If you’re inspired by what you’ve read about and seen at Studio M Kitchen & Bath and would like to explore the possibility of working with us on your project, the next step is a showroom consultation.

There is no charge for this roughly hour-long consultation, and it can be scheduled with any of our kitchen & bath designers. To make the most out of your time with the designer, bring your Pinterest boards, your Houzz idea books, your favorites from the Studio M website, and any other photos you might have that will help your designer home in on your style.

This is when you and your designer discuss your dreams for your space, your rough budget, and your project timeline. Your designer will introduce you to some of the options that might work for you. If what you hear excites you and energizes you, and you are ready to engage with Studio M on your project, we will collect a retainer and dig in!

Design

As if the first two steps have not been fun enough, this next step is REALLY fun. The first part of the design phase is information gathering. Your designer will visit your home for an initial measure. This is when you and your designer consider the possibilities for your space and choose a direction that achieves your project goals.

Once back at the office, your designer will begin creating customized and comprehensive floor plans, elevations, and perspectives as needed to help you visualize the overall look and feel of your project. You will meet with your designer for another consultation to refine cabinet, countertop, plumbing and appliance selections.

The excitement has been building, and when the design and pricing are complete, you will meet again with your designer for the presentation. Your designer will answer questions and make any necessary adjustments. The goal is to achieve a final design that is aesthetically pleasing and truly functional. When you are satisfied with the plans, we’ll complete the necessary paperwork, collect a deposit, and help you hire a contractor.

In anticipation of the next exciting (but messy) step, we will send you back home with some high-quality packing boxes to help you prepare your space.

Installation

While you are packing up your space and setting up a temporary kitchen space, your designer is busy preparing for installation.

Your designer verifies all measurements, checks and double checks the details, then places the cabinet order. Installation plans and schedules are reviewed with your contractor so that all preparations are made in an orderly and timely manner.

We collect the remaining balance on your order and deliver your cabinets just prior to installation.

You will soon start to see your new space take shape, and you will begin to visualize the “after” for your project. If that isn’t exciting, we’re in the wrong business!

Conclusion

After the dust settles and you’ve moved back into your new space, your designer will arrange a visit to go over warranty and care information for your new cabinetry and associated products.

We hope that your very own “after” will give you joy for years to come. You did it!

At Studio M Kitchen & Bath, we want to make sure your experience was smooth, enjoyable and as FUN as possible, from concept to completion – and beyond.
