MEDICINE LAKE MODERN KITCHEN

With a moody color palette, integrated lighting, and a sleek design that emphasizes the home’s lakeside view, this kitchen remodel truly embodies its name: Medicine Lake Modern.

The homeowners wanted a kitchen with a contemporary design that emphasized artificial and natural light. They wanted smooth, clean lines uninterrupted by bulky appliances and were captivated by the idea of adding dimmable, integrated lighting.

To better support the homeowners’ love of entertaining, the wall separating the kitchen and dining area was removed to provide an open layout and a bar-height peninsula was added to provide extra seating and effectively bridge the newly opened space between the kitchen and dining areas.

Kitchen & bath designer Danielle Lardani paired contemporary laminate cabinetry with rich cherry wood to lend a feeling of warmth to the space. To keep the design clean and consistent, the appliances were hidden by matching cabinetry panels. The cherry and laminate cabinetry, black metallic accents, and concrete-colored cork flooring were all chosen to blend the design elements together while adding texture and visual intrigue.

While this kitchen design features a moody color palette, it’s anything but dark. The space is adorned from top to bottom with integrated lighting that tastefully illuminates every surface and drawer. The lighting can be controlled to create different moods as desired by the homeowner: bright, direct lighting for meal prep and cooking, dimmed lighting for entertaining, and indirect lighting for relaxation and restfulness.
