ORGANIC CONTEMPORARY BEACH HOUSE
Welcome to Revival House's Minneapolis Organic Contemporary Beach House remodel. The owners of this 1952 Linden Hills rambler wanted to update its design to create a bright, contemporary haven that also incorporated natural materials. Inspired by the elegant, beachy vibe of Sydney, Australia, this home is a testament to their vision. It is an excellent representation of contemporary styling, with natural finishes and materials coming together in neutral and monochrome tones.
The kitchen’s two small windows and back door did not bring enough light into the space. These were exchanged for a large 3-panel slider opening to the back yard and a wide 70-inch window over the sink.
Next, the u-shaped floor plan was scrapped for a smooth, efficient plan with a center island. The center island facilitates traffic flow and allows the eye to easily pass from the dining room through the kitchen to the sunny backyard.
The kitchen perimeter cabinetry is Wynnbrooke's Rift Cut White Oak in their Sand stain, and the island uses Decor's Plain Sawn Red Oak in their Charcoal stain. White Corian quartz tops the sink area, while dark Cambria quartz wraps the island.
Premium appliances by Bosch and Fisher & Paykel are expertly hidden behind sleek cabinetry panels. Also included in this kitchen is a bar area complete with open glass shelving, a built-in refrigerator drawer, and integrated lighting that illuminates every bottle and decorative glass.
The dramatic, show-stopping feature in the living room is the floor-to-ceiling fireplace surround, clad in large-format black and white honed porcelain. Adjacent to the fireplace is a charcoal stained storage cabinet and display shelves, backed by the same black and white honed porcelain as the fireplace surround.
The oak floors throughout the home were lime-washed, giving them the look of a sandy summer beach. The walls and trim were whitewashed, making each room look larger and brighter while providing a neutral backdrop for décor.
Furnishings and accessories in the room are consistent with the natural, monochromatic palette, resulting in a classic, sophisticated, yet airy ambiance.
